CFL
Distribution Programme Inaugurated
Visakhapatnam:For the
first time in India distribution of compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs) programme
commenced in Visakhapatnam.The programme is inaugurated by the Pendurthy MLA Sri
T.Gurumurthy reddy and Deputy mayor Sri Dohra Babu in Musallayyapalem area,
Sagarnagar of Visakhapatnam here on Saturday Evening.(15th-11-2008).
The MLA distributed CFL to local household and recollected the old led bulb from
them. On this occasion the MLA has appreciated the APEPDCL and OSRAM India Pvt
limited for taking this energy conservation programme on large scale coverage
about 6.5 Lack consumers in the Visakhapatnam District. Sri B.Remesh Prasad,
Chief General Manager(O&CS),Sri B.Seshu Kumar,S.E., Visakhapatnam Circle, GM
(EA) Sri KVV Satyanarayana, Sri.S.V.Suryapratap,DE-Zone-I and others have
participated.

About the
CFL distribution project in Visakhapatnam District
- As a part of mitigating the
supply demand gap and peak load reduction through Energy conservation. CMD/EPDCL
initiated CFL promotion drive and entered into MOU with M/s OSRAM (I) Pvt.
Ltd., on 8th May 2007.
- Stake holder meeting was
conducted on 25th May 2007 at Visakhapatnam OSRAM India Pvt. Ltd.
In association with APEPDCL.
- Total 6,30,000 CFL will be
distributed to the approximately 7.8 Lakh domestic consumers in Visakhapatnam
district.
- A nominal charges of Rs.
15/- will be collected through CC bills, which will be used towards the cost
of environmentally safe disposal of removed GLS lamps and failed CFL lamps.
- The period of the project is
10 years.
- Condition for replacement
of CFLs.
- The
currently used GLS bulbs of 60W & 100 W which are being used for max. hours
(Living/Dinning/Kitchen/Bed room) will be replaced with CFLs.
- 60 W or
Wattage not readable GLS bulbs are to be replaced with 15 w CFL and 100 W
GLS with 20 W CFL.
- One CFL
will be replaced for each house hold (service connection).
- The
consumer has to return the replaced GLS bulb.
- The
consumer has to pay Rs. 15/- through CC bills.
- New CFL
will be given in case the distributed CFL fails due to technical defects within
12 months.
- Tube
lights, CFLs, GLS bulbs of 40 W and below are not replaced.
- Special Features of the
CFL.
- The CFLs
supplied under this project are specially designed by M/s OSRAM.
- Save upto
80% energy as compared with GLS Lamps.
- Its life
time is 15,000 burning hours
- It is
proposed to distribute the CFL Lamps through Women Self Help Groups in
coordination with DRDA in rural, UCD in Urban and ITDA in tribal area.

Approximately 11,000 SHG members are required for distribution f the CFLs.
- The approximate cost of the
distribution of CFLs is Rs. 60,00,000/- which includes storage of lamps,
transportation and remuneration SHB members.
- 400 SHG members were
undergone training in Core group and Sub-Core group training.
- Field training at Section
Offices is under Progress.
